Heat Pump Products:
Vancouver Island has an ideal climate for residential air-to-air heat pumps. An air-to-air heat pump will give significant energy savings compared to other forms of heating. Heat pumps are based upon a refrigeration cycle and provide heating in winter and air conditioning in summer. They are 3 to 4 times more efficient in their use of electricity than any electric source of heat. The indoor air handler unit is attached to ductwork.
Ductwork is more critical with a heat pump than gas or oil furnaces due to the fact that more air needs to be circulated to achieve the same heating capacity. The placement of the outdoor unit is critical so as not to disturb neighbours and meet municipal by-laws. Accutemp only sells heat pumps that incorporate environmentally friendly R410a refrigerant. Air-to-air heat pumps can incorporate whole house air filtration systems.

Ductless Heat Pumps
Ductless (mini-split) heat pumps work the same as standard air-source heat pumps except they require no ducting. This becomes convenient when installing or extending ducting is not feasible because of space or aesthetics. Mini-splits consist of an outdoor compressor/condenser unit and one or more indoor air-handling units called “heads”. These heads are typically mounted high up on a wall in a particular zone allowing that area to be heated and cooled independently. Some units can have up to four heads connected to one outdoor unit. A conduit, which houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing, and a condensate drain, link the indoor and outdoor unit.
With all heat sources be sure to choose those that are Energy Star® Rated Systems.
